At the very beginning you’ll have to mine it yourself but quickly you unlock the ability to have it automatically gathered. ![]() Everything in the game runs off of resources, the first of which are Carbonium and Ironium. No matter what mode it is things start out the same with you setting up a headquarters were you will respawn if your suit becomes critically damaged. You can choose from various difficulty options or customize them to your preference. A big feature here is the survival mode, which allows you to attempt to hold out as long as possible on four different biomes. There is also a prologue, which has been available for free for quite some time, that serves as an excellent tutorial to the game’s systems. To accomplish this goal however you will need to gather resources and build up structures in a clearly defined path to complete the game’s campaign. You play as a human trained to use her sentient mech suit and build up a portal system so that teleportation through this rift can allow for human colonization of the alien planet. This game is immense in it’s depth for building up your base as you are attempting to colonize a distant world. That’s why I am stunned that the incredibly complicated and in-depth base building mechanics of this title have, instead of turning me off, made me fall in love with it. I did review Halo Wars 2 earlier this year and the simplicity of that title went a long way towards making me enjoy it. The Riftbreaker is set to launch on Steam, Xbox One and Playstation 4 in early 2020.In general, I do not like games that feature resource gathering and base building. The final product is on track to deliver a well balanced mix of strategy and action all accompanied by stunning visuals. We were more than intrigued by our brief time with the game at PAX East 2019. The end product is sure to wow players with its graphics and visual fidelity. Detail in the environments, particle and lighting effects are all cutting edge, even in this early build of the game (this has us particularity excited to see the aforementioned mini nukes in action). This has allowed them to create something that is legitimately impressive from a visual standpoint. Having built this engine from the ground up, the developers possess expert knowledge of the game’s powerhouse. The Riftbreaker is powered by Exor Studio’s proprietary engine, Scmetterling 2.0. The developers have noted that mini nukes and flamethrowers, among many others will be available in the final build. In the demo, we were able to use a rapid fire machine gun as well as an area of effect rocket launcher that was very handy against bigger monsters or larger groups of smaller monsters. A close range melee attack using the right trigger allows you to get up close and personal with smaller enemies. Riggs has a robust arsenal of offensive attacks to repel alien attacks. You’ll need to think and act fast with base building as hoards of creatures are never far away. However with the looming threat of alien monsters on Galatea 37, you will need to balance strategy, defense and resource gathering in order to complete objectives and survive. By employing a complex but intuitive suite of building mechanic tools, you can easily navigate between several different building types, each serving a different purpose in completing objectives. These structures range from solar panels, power generators and rift portals all the way to defense turret towers and barriers to defend these tiny industrial cities. Players will utilize a wide range of building tools to construct various bases.
